Jason Behrends runs an arts & culture blog in Chicago, and every Wednesday he features an interview with a different artist. This week, there's a little interview with me. Thanks Jason!

I wanted to thank all the people who posted my link recently - jacklamotta at Design Radar / Andrew at Design is Kinky / Loic at Computer Love / Maria at Altpick / the folks at The Little Chimp Society / and the folks at Liquid Treat. If you haven't seen some of these sites, check them out ! chock full of interesting stuff for your eyeballs.

By far, one of my favorite things is my 1945 Remington DeLuxe typewriter. This one has a juicy story behind it. I always wanted a typewriter...but never got around to getting one.
A little more than a year ago, my (then) boyfriend told me he had a special present for me. I was blindfolded and led into the kitchen. All I could smell was a musty, moldy overwhelming smell- kind of like being in one of those toxic vintage clothing stores. He sat me down at the table and i put my hands out. I felt around and there was some kind of latch thing. Still blindfolded, i had no idea what the hell it was. Feeling for the latch, i opened an old musty box- then, in a fit of excitement, pulled off my blindfold, and there it was! Beautiful, black and smelly... a typewriter swirling with history and the sounds of the ghosts of all the fingertips of the past which banged out words and thoughts.
In the typewriter, i noticed a piece of paper- the thinthin paper that people used to use way back when. There it was... typed out on the paper... will you marry me? Can't think of a cooler way to get out those big words. I typed my answer, and the rest is history.
I use my typewriter all the time- it's a workout and you usually always injure your fingers somehow. But the letters always come out differently depending on how much oomph you give the keys and it's also ideal for writing love letters.

LEFTHANDSIDE was created by Marcela Restrepo from Colombia in November of 2003 to bring together talented left-handed artists and designers from all around the world. The site is our lefty place for showing our pride of being left-handed people in a right-handed world. Marcela invited me to join up a while back...at least one person in ten is left-handed.
